May 25, 1950 – April 7, 2026
With great sadness, we share the news of Jamie Jarvis’s passing, who left us peacefully at home on April 7, 2026.
Jamie was born on May 25th, 1950 to Jim and Edna Jarvis. He often remarked, “I was born lucky and have been lucky most of my life.” His childhood was spent at the family home on Balmoral Street and their camp by Oliver Lake-two places that he cherished deeply. Growing up in simpler times meant days filled with building go-karts and racing them, sneaking into yards for crab apples after dark, and running through the neighborhood to gather friends for baseball or hockey games. He often let his younger sister Patty join in-knowing she had a knack for go-kart racing. Little Susan would watch from the sidelines. Their upbringing was full of love and family moments as they lived just down the street from their grandparents. Jamie attended Franklin St School, Mckellar Park, FWCI and Churchill before earning his teaching degree at Lakehead University.
Most of his esteemed teaching career took place at Slate River and Valley Central. Though known to be strict but fair, he also brought a lot of fun-if it was earned! He instilled a strong work ethic in his students while guiding them with integrity; he believed each child had unique potential. Many former students have expressed how much “Mr. J” influenced their lives positively, setting them on paths to success through high standards and moral values. He would often say, “God don’t make no junk,” reflecting his belief in every child’s worthiness. His impact lasted well beyond their time in class; he would greet former students by name years later with genuine interest about their lives.
The water was where Jamie felt most alive. He devoted countless hours teaching his daughters and their friends how to waterski or kneeboard while giving thrilling rides on the tube. Fishing held a special place in his heart since childhood; at just eight years old, he’d bike over to Neebing River or hitchhike to Kakabeka Falls-much to his mother’s dismay-to catch bass for Grandpa. Throughout his life, many fishing stories were made on Oliver Lake, Picture Lake, Chub Lakes, Raleigh Lake, Washington Island, Lake Superior among other favorite spots. Additionally, he volunteered at the salmon hatchery as a way to contribute back to the waters he loved so much. Late-night smelting trips are memories that will stay with his daughters forever; it wasn’t just about catching fish but about sharing those experiences with others.
Jamie was a dear friend and mentor who will be remembered for his kindness and sharp insights along with generous spirit-especially when it came to giving time. People relied on him for advice because he had this amazing ability to provide just what someone needed at that moment. A truly social person at heart; Jamie found joy in organizing gatherings like annual “Kiddie Day,” dock parties or snowmobile outings among many others throughout life’s journey forming deep friendships along the way which meant everything to him as did newly formed connections too. Despite health challenges faced over time though never waned spirit remained steadfast facing obstacles head-on filled with courage gratitude perseverance still keeping family close always appreciating precious moments shared together including meaningful bonds formed even towards beloved dog Stella who misses him dearly now.
Jamie shared many wonderful years raising daughters Marnie and Julie alongside their mother Lori Gregor at Oliver Lake-a backdrop providing adventures outdoor fun creating lasting memories learning valuable life lessons shaping who they became today! The twinkle in those blue eyes conveyed warmth-but also served warning you knew if trouble loomed nearby! Later built new life around lake again alongside late partner Cathy Williams until her passing led him find love anew marrying Denyse sharing countless adventures together-from travel fishing gardening bonfires hot air balloon rides sledding hiking etc., all while hosting friends & family warmly entertaining everyone! Denyse stood by him unwaveringly showing strength compassion positivity always bringing laughter-a true angel whose presence breathed new energy into Jamie’s life!
He’ll be profoundly missed by loving wife Denyse along with daughters Marnie (Morris), Julie (Alek), step-sons Darryl (Mellissa), Dale (Lauren) Krystalovich; siblings Susan Conrad Letowski Patty Jarvis honorary sister Francesca Matiowsky niece Kelsey (Kyle) nephew Ben (Jennie); plus cherished grandkids Athena Bryce Drew Avery Olivia Rosie Scarlett Nova Joey Finley!
No amount of time could ever feel sufficient having Jamie around yet legacy continues living onward through lives touched lessons learned love shared freely every day guided by one favorite sayings: “I am a great believer in luck & harder I work more I have!”
