Mrs. Emily Sundell, nee Ostapchuk, age 95, resident of Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at Pioneer Ridge Monarch Manor on Monday, July 20th, 2026. Emily was born on April 19, 1931, in Waka, Saskatchewan to Philip and Tillie Ostapchuk. After finding the love of her life and raising three wonderful children, Emily worked for many years in the laundry department at Port Arthur General Hospital before retiring in 1994. In her retirement years, she enjoyed shopping on Saturdays, attending church on Sundays, and going to movies with family and friends weekly. She loved cooking for her family and was famously known for her perogies, cabbage rolls, and especially her potato pancakes. No one will ever make them quite like she did, but Erv is giving it a try. Hawaii was her favorite travel destination; she visited three times and also went on bus tours to Branson, Missouri. Emily is survived by her children Ervin (Karen), Sharon Leclair (Rick), Cheryl Wilson; grandchildren Jennie Silk (Aaron), Angie, Stephanie Mac Kenzie (Craig), Lyndsie Wilson (Dean), Renee and Danielle Leclair; great-grandchildren Spencer, Ella, Cole, Kelsey, Alex, Sebastin, Zoe, Elle, Cash, Stone; along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Ernest (who she never remarried because she always said he was enough), son-in-law Danny Wilson; grandson-in-law Matthew Cybulski; parents Philip and Tillie Ostapchuk; siblings John, Stella, Rudy and Anne; special friends Gisele and Baba Nina as well as Dolly. Cremation has taken place. There will be no service held. A private interment will occur later at Riverside Cemetery. The family of Emily wishes to express their gratitude to the amazing staff at Pioneer Ridge Monarch Manor for the exceptional care they provided during her seven years there. In lieu of flowers donations to the Alzheimer Society of Thunder Bay would be greatly appreciated.
