Makepeace, Eleanor May (nee Stone)
Eleanor passed away on July 3, 2017 at the age of 90, at Wentworth Lodge in Dundas, Ontario. She was the loving wife of Raymond Makepeace, who died in 2009. Eleanor was a devoted mother to Nancy Makepeace (Jaro Kratina) and Barbara Makepeace, and a caring Nana to Michael Comeau (Amy Groen) and Daniel Comeau. She was predeceased by her brother George Stone and sister Alice Roberts. She is survived by her sister Erma Smith, her brother Earl Stone, and a large extended family across the US and Canada.
Eleanor’s cheerful personality and positive outlook helped her make many lifelong friends during her school years in Saint John NB, as well as throughout her working life and retirement in Hamilton, Burlington, Ancaster, and Dundas. She also made friends through various groups like the Pilot Club, Lady Hamilton Club, Burlington Navy Club, Red Hats, Aldershot pool activities, and the United Church.
We want to extend our gratitude to those who cared for Eleanor during her later years: Dr. Steven Hadcock, Dr. James A. Martin, Dr. Emma Mazurek and Dr. Barb Strang. Thanks also go to the staff at Amica at Dundas where Eleanor lived happily for five years, along with the staff at Wentworth Lodge who provided excellent care during her final challenging months. Special thanks to Lindsay Frankiewicz for going above and beyond in providing personal care for Eleanor over many years; we are also thankful for Reverend Rick Spies and the Pastoral Care Team at St. Paul’s United Church in Dundas for their spiritual support that meant so much to Eleanor and our family.
Visitation will take place at St. Paul’s United Church located at 29 Park Street West in Dundas on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 10 am until the Funeral Service begins at 11 am. A reception will follow immediately after the service at the church. Interment will be held at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Hamilton. Donations can be made to St. Paul’s United Church (Arrangements entrusted to SMITH’S FUNERAL HOME BURLINGTON 905-632-3333).
