With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to David on June 25, 2026 after a long battle with COPD.
David was born on July 13, 1948 to Melvin and Dema Carson. As the oldest of seven siblings, he grew up in Fort William for the first eight years of his life. The family then moved to Rosslyn Road where he made many lifelong friends. In his younger days, he was always active and loved a good party.
David began his career with the CNR before becoming a welder by trade. He spent much of his working life at the Port Arthur Shipyards and also worked as a welder in Alberta.
Nothing brought David more joy than being outdoors in the bush or by the lake. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, often using a crossbow for his hunts. After retiring, he loved grabbing a Robin’s coffee and taking scenic drives through the countryside or simply sitting by the Kam River to enjoy its peace and quiet.
David is survived by his son Jaret Carson, granddaughter Bethany Friesen, and great-granddaughter Myra Lynn Morris. He also leaves behind his siblings: sisters Bev Zweep (Jim), Vickie Carson-Curtis (Richard), brothers Kevin and Craig; as well as nieces and nephews Cara Pylvainen (Allan, Chris, Tamara, Erik, Alyssa), Jeff Zweep, Michael Carson, Clayton Carson (Natalie, Kyla, Chloe and Quinn), Devon Carson, Brendon Roy, Meghan Gaudette (Kaylee, Breanna, Brinley), Kayla Curtis (Garrett, Brandon, Katilynn ), Mitchell Curtis (Valeria), Cassandra Curtis (Bryce, Grace, Anna), Nathan Carson and Ciaran Carson.
He was predeceased by his son Tad Carson; parents Dema and Melvin Carson; brothers Gary and Donald; niece Jennifer Carson; sister-in-law Julie Halstead.
At David’s request there will be no funeral service. He has been cremated and his ashes will be scattered alongside those of his son Tad at a later time. Throughout his illness he showed us amazing grace. He always expressed gratitude towards his caregivers for their support.
The family wants to thank the staff at P. R. Cook for making David’s final years comfortable. We also appreciate Dr. Migay, Dr. Texeira, the Palliative care team and all the wonderful staff at Hospice. A special thanks goes to David’s nurse practitioner of many years-Carolan Thayer-for her exceptional care.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue in Thunder Bay.
Rest easy now, David. Until we meet again.
