We are heartbroken to announce the passing of David Jacob (DJ) Burns on Wednesday, May 27th, 2026.

Our dear son, brother, uncle, nephew, grandson, and friend will always be remembered by everyone who had the pleasure of knowing him. David Jacob brightened our lives when he was born on March 6, 2001, in Midland, Ontario. As the youngest in the family, he brought joy to his parents David and Shannon and his sisters Kaitlyn and Ashley. Named after both his father and grandfather, our amazing son represented the best parts of us all.

David had a unique mix of depth and humor. He adored his family and showered affection on his nieces and nephews. Whether you were a friend or a relative, being around DJ meant you were in for some surprises along with plenty of laughter thanks to his playful spirit. He loved making others smile, which is one of the biggest things we will remember him for.

As the cherished baby of the family, David certainly embraced that role! Whenever he came to visit relatives, he’d greet us with a warm hug and that infectious smile before heading straight for the kitchen in search of a snack. No butter tart was safe from DJ’s reach! This was just one way he showed that he knew he could always count on his family’s love and support.

David Jacob is deeply missed by his parents, David and Shannon Burns; sisters Kaitlyn Burns (Ajaz) and Ashley Burns (Kory); as well as being a loving uncle to Zayne, Alia, Jaxton, and Paige. He was cherished by his grandmother Gail Hooper; grandparents Carole and Bill Sproule; uncle Michael Hooper (Sabina); aunt Lori Beaudry (Carl); along with cousins Ivan, Jordan, Cathy, Chelsea, and Taylor. Sadly, David Jacob is preceded in death by his son Rhodes Rusby-Burns along with grandfathers William Hooper and David Burns Sr.

The shock of DJ’s passing has left many things unsaid between us; however the memory of his beautiful spirit along with our unbreakable bond as a family will carry us through until we meet again. David lives forever in our hearts.

A visitation and celebration of life will take place on Thursday June 11th, 2026 from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at Billingsley Funeral Home located at 430 Ravenscliffe Road in Huntsville.

If you’d like to honor him with something other than flowers please consider donating to the George Langman Sanctuary and Wildlife Refuge in Orillia.
