Elsner, Bert H.

It is with great sadness that we share the news of Bert Elsner’s passing, a lifelong resident of Almonte, Ontario, on March 9, 2026, at home with his family close by.

Bert was preceded in death by his devoted wife Cindy (Larose). He was a loving father to Malissa (Greg), Derrick (Tina), Cori-Jane (Guy), and stepfather to Jennifer (Kurt). He took pride in being Opa to his wonderful grandchildren: Teagan, Kaleb, Cayden, Ryker, and Jas. He will be greatly missed by his brother Henry (Maureen) and niece Amy. He was also predeceased by his parents Alfons and Elfriede and his brother Ralph.

Those who had the pleasure of knowing Bert understood his passion for birds. Throughout the years, he raised homing pigeons, pheasants, peacocks, silkies, and many others. He was a longtime member of the Golden Triangle Racing Pigeon Club in Smiths Falls, Ontario as well as the Canadian Racing Pigeon Union.

In his younger days, Bert spent much of his time working on family dairy farms in Clayton and Appleton, Ontario. Later on, he worked for many years as head ice cream maker at Peterson’s Ice Cream Factory in Almonte until it closed down. His other jobs included working at a rose nursery in Carp, Ontario before transitioning to lawn care in Almonte. In more recent times, he enjoyed working at Ashland Horse Farm in Ashton, Ontario. A true Almonte local, he found joy in caring for his racing pigeons and maintaining beautiful gardens.

A Celebration of Bert’s life will take place on Sunday April 19th 2026 from 1:00 p. m. to 4:00 p. m., at the Almonte Civitan Hall located at 500 Almonte Street in Almonte Ontario.

All who knew and loved Bert are invited to join us in celebrating his life.
