Thinking about relocating? This lovely town, situated about an hour from Toronto, might just be the perfect spot to settle down.

With its stunning lakeside views, charming streets, and lively food culture, it’s a wonderful place to call home and has recently been recognized as one of Canada’s top places to live in 2026.

A recent study by d NOVO Group, a digital marketing agency based in Toronto, has identified Canada’s Best Cities to Live in 2026. It highlights ten locations across the country that provide financial security, personal safety, and a high quality of life.

d NOVO Group assessed various factors such as attractions, living costs, average rent prices, and safety indexes to pinpoint some of the best places in Canada for settling down.

Oakville, Ontario has been ranked as the eighth best place to live in Canada for 2026. Its delightful downtown area, scenic waterfront, and lush neighborhoods certainly contribute to its appeal.

The destination

Oakville is a picturesque lakeside community located roughly an hour away from Toronto.

This town combines historical charm with a sophisticated vibe. Its beautiful harbor, boutique-lined streets, cozy cafés, and locally owned shops create a friendly small-town atmosphere while still providing plenty of modern conveniences that make daily life enjoyable.

The downtown area is walkable and full of character with numerous restaurants, attractions, local shops, and markets waiting to be discovered.

An exceptional aspect of Oakville is its abundance of green spaces. The town boasts hundreds of parks along with over 200 kilometers of trails that make enjoying nature easy and accessible.

You can take sunset strolls or have picnics along the waterfront while enjoying beach days at Coronation Park or Bronte Beach Park.

According to d NOVO Group’s findings, Oakville has an impressive safety index score of 74.1-this is the highest among Ontario cities on their list and second only to Sherbrooke at 75.12 across Canada.

The culture

Oakville offers a welcoming small-town atmosphere but has much more than meets the eye.

The community hosts a lively arts scene featuring galleries and live performances alongside annual events like Culture Days and the Oakville Festivals of Film and Art that attract visitors year-round.

You’ll find various activities available within this town-from indoor skydiving experiences and escape rooms to drive-in theaters; there’s no shortage of entertainment options here!

Diving into winter fun includes exploring snowy trails at Bronte Creek Provincial Park or skating on local rinks while indulging in Visit Oakville’s Taste of Oakville-a culinary event featuring prix fixe menus at different restaurants throughout the town.

Spring brings blossoming trails lined with flowers alongside maple syrup festivals plus cherry blossoms by the waterfront-you’ll want time strolling through Gairloch Gardens taking in all those fresh floral scents!

Summer means beach outings mixed with patio dining experiences along with opportunities for water sports plus outdoor festivities like music festivals happening regularly!

Oakville also enjoys thriving farmers’ markets where locals shop fresh produce along artisan goods paired up seasonal treats! Their packed community events calendar features everything from open-air concerts through food fairs right up cultural celebrations galore!

If you love food then Oakville will suit you well-the dining scene here impresses offering over 200 different restaurants catering every craving imaginable! Whether looking for brunch spots boasting scenic views or cozy cafes offering comfort meals-you’ll find it all here!

As noted by Invest Oakville: “in Oakville quality-of-life isn’t merely an expression; it ranks high among reasons why business leaders choose our vibrant community.”

“Business flourishes within this environment because people flourish too-with established neighborhoods supported by acclaimed schools nestled amidst abundant parklands-all found together!”

The cost

Lifestyle expenses come at quite a price tag when considering moving into this gem-average monthly rents reach $2,395.89 for one-bedroom apartments exceeding Toronto’s own rate set at $2’284.75 currently!

Nevertheless overall living costs remain slightly easier on wallets averaging around $1’329.48 compared against neighbouring city counts reaching up toward $1’535.22 respectively!

Zolo indicates house prices hover around $1’302’389 come March reflecting current marketplace trends stretching forward into next decade years ahead!
