Hydro One is hosting an event in Bracebridge on April 16; additional meetings are planned for Parry Sound, Hanmer, and Barrie.
Hydro One is set to hold four community open houses regarding the Sudbury-Barrie Transmission Line.
The meetings will occur next month in these locations:
Barrie on April 13, 2026 from 4-7 p. m.
East Bayfield Community Centre
80 Livingstone St. E., Barrie Parry Sound on April 14, 2026 from 4-7 p. m.
Royal Canadian Legion Branch 117
30 Mary St., Parry Sound Hanmer on April 15, 2026 from 4-7 p. m.
Centennial Arena
4333 Centennial Dr., Hanmer Bracebridge on April 16, 2026 from 4-7 p. m.
Bracebridge Sportsplex
110 Clearbrook Trail, Bracebridge If you can’t attend in person, there’s a virtual event scheduled for Tuesday, April 21 from 6 p. m. to 7 p. m. The utility states that this new transmission line spans approximately 300 kilometers and operates at a voltage of 500 kilovolts. It aims to support northern development and enhance the north-south transmission system backbone. The project completion is anticipated by the year 2032. This initiative was revealed last month during a press conference near Barrie. Provincial officials mentioned that the Barrie-to-Sudbury line will enable delivery capacity of up to 1,500 megawatts (MW) to the north-sufficient power for around 600,000 to one million homes-and provide an additional capacity of up to 1,000 MW to the south. One MW equals one million watts. “We are fast-tracking a new transmission line from Barrie to Sudbury, providing the power to build Ontario’s great northern communities and protect industries and workers for generations to come,” Sam Oosterhoff, associate minister of Energy-Intensive Industries, said Feb. 9 at the Essa Transformer Station in Springwater Township, about five kilometers west of Barrie on Sunnidale Road heading toward Angus.
