People in Oakville are finding fallen trees as they wake up today, following a strong line of thunderstorms that rolled through southern Manitoba on Tuesday night. The storm brought fierce winds, heavy rain, and lightning to the area.

The storms arrived after a hot and muggy day, part of a weather system that led to severe thunderstorm watches and warnings throughout southern Manitoba. Environment Canada cautioned that these storms could produce damaging wind gusts, large hail, heavy rainfall, and even tornadoes in some cases.

In Oakville, residents saw broken tree branches, scattered debris, and localized power outages as the storm passed by. The primary concern was the high winds, with some homeowners waking up on Wednesday morning to discover damaged trees and ditches filled with water.

The storm also delivered heavy rain at times, creating big puddles on roads and filling nearby ditches and fields with water. While no serious injuries were reported in Oakville, the weather event raised concerns across the region as thunderstorms intensified throughout the evening.

A local rainwatcher noted that approximately 108 mm (4.25 inches) of rain fell in the area.

Many residents took to social media to share images and videos capturing dark clouds over their community along with striking lightning displays and strong winds during the storm.

This weather event was part of a broader storm system affecting much of southern Manitoba. Forecasters had warned that conditions were favorable for severe thunderstorms that could bring damaging winds and dangerous lightning.

Environment Canada is predicting more unsettled weather for the week ahead, including further chances for showers and thunderstorms. Residents are reminded to stay updated by checking weather alerts and forecasts as severe weather season continues across Manitoba.

Cleanup efforts will likely carry on throughout the day as residents in Oakville assess what Tuesday night’s storm has caused.
