MARKHAM – Police in York Region are alerting the community following a recent coyote incident in Markham, Ont., on Sunday.

Authorities report that a coyote bit a young child at a park located near Roy Rainey and Bur Oak avenues around 7:30 p. m.

The child is approximately five years old and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Authorities advise residents to exercise caution while visiting parks around Mc Cowan Road and 16th Avenue in Markham.

They mentioned last week that another coyote attacked a 16-year-old girl near Mingay and Bur Oak avenues, resulting in minor injuries requiring hospitalization.

Officials urge everyone to stay vigilant, maintain distance from wildlife, and avoid approaching or feeding coyotes.

This report by The Canadian Press was first May 25, 2026.
