A staff sergeant from the Ottawa Police Service (OPS) faces an assault charge after a road rage incident in Oakville, Ont.
This alleged assault took place at around 10:20 p. m. on June 12, when Staff Sgt. Walt Lushman, who was off duty, got into a two-vehicle crash, according to a news release from Ottawa police on Friday.
Halton police have charged Lushman with one count of assault. He has been released under certain conditions.
The OPS professional standards unit will also investigate the situation.
“The OPS holds all officers to a high standard of conduct, both on and off duty, and expects their actions to reflect the trust and values of the community we serve,” the release said.
Lushman will not have any “public-facing duties” while the investigation is ongoing, as stated by Ottawa police.
