Golf enthusiasts will soon have a fresh spot to hone their putting skills, adjust their gear, and even replicate iconic golf shots when Golf Town holds the grand opening of its first flagship store this weekend.
The 40,000-square-foot store located at 290 North Service Road West in Oakville marks the retailer’s 50th Canadian outlet, but it promises to be much more than your average golf shop. With interactive putting technology, cutting-edge club-fitting tools, golf simulators, and customization services on-site, this new location is designed to encourage golfers to come in person rather than just shop online.
“It’s a combination of size, of expanded assortment, of expanded services and expertise in the building, and also of technology,” said Matt Lappin-Fortin, Golf Town’s senior vice-president of operations.
The store is two-and-a-half times larger than a standard Golf Town location and represents a $15-million investment. Although situated in Oakville within the former Toys R Us site, the company anticipates drawing golfers from throughout the Greater Toronto Area and southern Ontario.
Lappin-Fortin mentioned that finding the perfect spot for a flagship store took several years. Oakville was chosen due to its strong golfing community and convenient access to major highways for customers coming from neighboring areas.
Golf Town shoppers are often willing to travel further than they would for regular shopping trips since golfers prefer to physically handle clubs, test out equipment, and receive advice that can’t be matched online.
The layout of the new store reflects that concept with various sections where customers can engage with equipment and technology.
A standout feature is a 1,300-square-foot putting green outfitted with Putt View technology. This system utilizes dual projectors to display putting lines on the surface, assisting golfers in visualizing their path to the hole. It also includes interactive games like virtual mini-putt challenges where friends and family can compete against each other.
If golfers want to enhance their technique further, they can visit Studio X custom-fitting center for an elevated experience.

The Zen Green putting platform features a moving surface that simulates different slopes and undulations. Golfers can practice putts on simulated breaks that mimic famous shots from professional tournaments.
Lappin-Fortin cited Tiger Woods’ legendary 12-foot putt at the 2008 Masters as an example; he explained that this platform can adjust to reflect the slope faced by golfers during such shots.
The fitting center also incorporates Quintic technology for putter fitting along with five Foresight golf simulator bays-providing customers even more options to test equipment and refine their game.
Apart from cutting-edge tech offerings, this flagship store boasts a wider selection of golf gear, clothing, and footwear compared to regular locations. There are dedicated displays showcasing brands like Taylor Made, Callaway, Odyssey, PING , and Titleist; plus an enhanced women’s section within apparel featuring premium clothing lines.
<p The footwear section highlights Foot Joy’s FJ Fit LAB which employs three-dimensional scanning combined with a multi-camera system for precise foot mapping-helping ensure customers find just the right shoe fit.
An additional unique aspect is an in-store personalization lab where staff members can stamp initials or messages onto wedges or print logos on golf balls while engraving items like Yeti mugs or leather cases-many services being completed immediately!
This location also showcases Canadian-themed touches such as putting green cups identical those used at Cabot Cape Breton!
Lappin-Fortin emphasizes creating an atmosphere where people enjoy golfing even when they’re not actually on-course!
“It’s clear that consumers have said if we’re going to get in our car & drive into a store then it has got have some experience,” he stated. “It needs be more than just transactional shopping online.”
The company hopes this new model serves as inspiration for future flagship stores while continuing renovations across existing ones alongside expanding its online presence!
