An 8-year-old girl has lost her life after being hit by an SUV in Oakville on Thursday, according to Halton police.
The collision reconstruction unit is looking into the incident that also left a 39-year-old woman injured, said Jeff Dillon from the Halton Regional Police Service.
“Becoming police officers, these are the things that we dread,” Dillon mentioned while at the scene shortly after the crash.
Just before 4 p. m. on Thursday, police received a call about an accident near North Service Road West and Lindsay Drive. An SUV veered off the road and hit both the woman and her daughter, as reported by Halton police.
Authorities stated that both victims were transported to trauma centers; however, despite attempts to save her, the child did not survive.
A 47-year-old man from Oakville has been taken into custody and charged with dangerous driving causing death, according to police. Dillon noted that the man stayed at the scene following the incident.
“Our prayers go out to the family and that young child,” Dillon expressed. He added that investigators will be speaking with witnesses and collecting evidence as they proceed with their investigation.
