A 49-year-old man has been taken into custody, according to Niagara police, facing charges related to child pornography after an investigation initiated by what authorities describe as a “third party group.”
The Niagara Regional Police Service announced on Thursday that the individual, Darren R. Fox, is up against four serious charges: creating child pornography, providing explicit material to a child, luring a child for sexual interference, and luring a child for “facilitating invitation to sexual touching.”
Police reported that on August 9th, officers in St. Catharines responded to an “indecent act call for service.”
“The initial investigation determined that a third-party group using online decoy tactics had identified what they believed to be a child predator,” said police in a news release. “The group confronted the individual at his residence before contacting police to turn over their evidence.”
The Internet Child Exploitation unit of Niagara police is currently looking into the case and believes there could be more victims.
Fox remains in custody and was also known by the name “Brett Donovan,” according to authorities who are urging anyone with information to reach out to detectives at (905) 688-4111, dial option 3, ext. 1009128 or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously.
