Halton police report that two individuals from Quebec are facing charges after they were connected to a stolen SUV and more stolen vehicles were discovered during an investigation spanning from Oakville to East York.

The inquiry started on May 25 when officers with the Halton Regional Police Service were called to a home in Oakville regarding the overnight theft of a Toyota Sequoia SUV.

According to law enforcement, the suspects broke a window to access the vehicle before utilizing a reprogramming device to start and steal the SUV.

Investigators later followed the suspects to East York, where officers monitored their activities and identified additional stolen vehicles linked to them.

On May 27, police apprehended 23-year-old Thyson Joseph from Quebec. He faces charges of motor vehicle theft, two counts of possession of property obtained through crime over $5,000, two counts of failing to comply with an undertaking, and one count of possession of property obtained through crime under $5,000.

Authorities state that Joseph was already under two separate release orders related to prior auto theft charges at the time he was taken into custody.

He is being held pending a bail hearing in Milton.

Also taken into custody was 23-year-old Maika Lumumba from Quebec, who faces one count of possession of property obtained through crime under $5,000.

During this investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a residence in East York. Police claim they seized an Acura sedan stolen from Montreal, an Acura SUV stolen from Peel Region, a reprogramming device, stolen license plates, and other items reported as stolen.

The investigation continues.
