Halton police report that an eight-year-old girl has died following a serious accident in Oakville Thursday afternoon.
At around 3:52 p. m., officers were alerted to a collision on North Service Road West, just west of Lindsay Drive, where two pedestrians had been hit.
According to investigators, a Lexus SUV driven by a 47-year-old man from Oakville was heading west when it went off the road on the north side and struck a 39-year-old woman along with her eight-year-old daughter.
The mother and daughter were rushed to the hospital before being moved to trauma centers. Despite all efforts to save her, the young girl succumbed to her injuries.
The driver of the SUV has been arrested and charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance Causing Death.
