Authorities in an Ontario town have accused a Catholic priest of sexual assault.

The inquiry started in February when the Halton Regional Police Service got a report regarding the alleged sexual assault of an adult woman.

According to police, the incident took place while the victim was volunteering at a church in Oakville.

Halton police report that Ranjan D’Sa, 53, from Oakville, has been charged with one count of sexual assault.

The individual was released on an undertaking and has a court date set for the future in Milton.

Police indicate that D’Sa has served as clergy since 2010 and began working at St. Dominic’s Roman Catholic Church in Oakville in 2016. He was listed as part of the clergy on the church’s website on Tuesday.

Efforts to reach out to the church for comments were unsuccessful.

Investigators are worried there might be other victims and are asking anyone with information to reach out to the Halton police Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit at 905-825-4777 ext. 8970.

You can also provide anonymous tips to Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-8477 or visiting www. ontariocrimestoppers. ca. When you contact Crime Stoppers, you remain anonymous, never have to testify, and could earn a $2,000 reward.
