A car that veered onto the sidewalk hit a mother and her daughter, resulting in the child’s death.

As reported by Halton Regional Police, an SUV was traveling west on North Service Road in Oakville shortly before 4 p. m. on Thursday (Oct. 6) when it left the roadway and collided with a 39-year-old woman and her 8-year-old daughter.

Both individuals were transported to the hospital, but unfortunately, the child was later declared deceased.

Authorities state that the driver remained at the scene and has since been charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death. The identity of the 47-year-old man is not yet public.

Investigators are urging anyone who witnessed the incident or has dashcam footage to reach out to them at 905-825-4777.
