A 78-year-old woman has died, and another woman was hurt after a serious two-car accident in the westbound lanes of Highway 403 in Oakville.
The Ontario Provincial Police reported that they were alerted just after 9:30 p. m. Thursday about a disabled SUV located in an active lane of the highway near Dundas Street.
Authorities say that before emergency responders could arrive, the SUV was hit by a tractor trailer.
The driver, aged 78, was declared dead at the scene while a 67-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with injuries that aren’t life-threatening.
The tractor trailer driver did not sustain any injuries.
The highway remained closed for several hours during the investigation and reopened around 4 a. m. Friday.
