A man has lost his life after a canoe overturned on a lake in the Muskoka region this past weekend.
The OPP reported that officers were dispatched shortly after 8 p. m. on Saturday to investigate reports of a flipped canoe on Stewart Lake in Georgian Bay Township.
According to investigators, there were two individuals in the canoe when it capsized approximately 40 feet from the shore.
One person was saved by a nearby boater, while the other went under and did not come back up.
Police confirmed that the missing paddler, a 31-year-old man from Mississauga, was discovered deceased on Sunday.
The investigation is ongoing with help from the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.

The OPP is reminding all boaters and paddlers to wear properly fitted life jackets or personal flotation devices, check weather conditions prior to heading out onto the water, and ensure that all necessary safety equipment is available onboard.
