Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have announced that a full police funeral will take place on Thursday for Provincial Constable Tarun Bali, the 29‑year‑old officer who lost his life in the line of duty during an investigation in Hearst, Ont., earlier this month.

The service is set for June 18 at 10:30 a. m. at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre, located at 5500 Rose Cherry Place. Family members of Const. Bali, invited guests, OPP personnel, police and emergency services staff, military representatives, and dignitaries will be present.

The OPP has stated that the visitation and funeral service won’t be open to the general public; however, there will be a designated area where community members can observe the funeral cortege as it arrives. The ceremony will also be livestreamed.

People can express their support and share memories through the OPP’s online book of condolences.

Const. Bali was tragically killed on June 9 after being hit by a vehicle while officers were carrying out an investigation in Hearst, Ont., which is about 520 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay. An 18‑year‑old man has been charged with first‑degree murder, dangerous driving, and fleeing from police.

Just days later, Toronto police Const. Marc Pinizzotto was shot and killed during a warrant operation in North York while serving with the Emergency Task Force.

A moment of silence was observed for both Const. Bali and Const. Pinizzotto during a recent Toronto Blue Jays game and at a procession earlier this week that brought together first responders from across Ontario.
