The memorial service for Ontario Provincial Police Const. Tarun Bali, who tragically lost his life last week, has been arranged.

Bali, age 29, was hit by a vehicle in Hearst, a town located about 520 kilometres east of Thunder Bay while officers were conducting an investigation.

According to police in a news release, the service is set for Thursday morning at the Mississauga Sports and Entertainment Centre.

While it won’t be open to the public, Bali’s family and other police officers, military personnel, and dignitaries are expected to be there.

The OPP mentioned that there will be a designated area where the public can watch the procession and view the funeral service via livestream.

An 18-year-old man has been charged with several offenses, including first-degree murder, related to Bali’s death.

Police also provided more information about Bali’s background.

The news release indicates he was born in Naya Nangal, which is approximately 358 kilometres north of New Delhi in India.

Bali was described by police as a “dedicated, enthusiastic officer” who volunteered his time and spoke several languages such as Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu.
