The four leading candidates for mayor in Mississauga will face off again on Thursday evening for their second debate, as the municipal election campaign enters its final stretch.
The top four candidates – current mayor Carolyn Parrish, former mayor Bonnie Crombie, and city councillors Alvin Tedjo and Dipika Damerla – will once more discuss key issues during tonight’s event, just six days after their first debate of the election season.
Food Banks Mississauga and the Metamorphosis Network are co-hosting this debate, which is scheduled from 7 to 9 p. m. at FBM’s warehouse located on Eastgate Parkway in the city’s eastern region.
The local organizations stated that they’re organizing this debate “to ensure that poverty alleviation, including income and housing security, and food security are key platform issues for Mississauga mayoral candidates.”
Food Banks Mississauga, which was known as The Mississauga Food Bank until 2023, manages over 60 agencies and food programs across Canada’s seventh-largest city.
The Metamorphosis Network is a coalition of more than 100 non-profit community service agencies in Peel working together to ensure essential services are “fully funded, effective and meet the needs of the community.”
As voters get ready to cast their ballots in Mississauga and throughout Ontario for the Oct. 26 municipal election, FBM officials report that their extensive network “continues to serve record-breaking numbers of food bank users, and food insecurity is on the rise with no end in sight.”
They added that voters who attend the Oct. 1 debate “can hear directly from the candidates about their vision and strategies for tackling critical issues facing the city like poverty alleviation and food security.”
The Sept. 25 debate was hosted by the Mississauga Board of Trade.

The last debate where Parrish intends to participate will be held on Oct. 15 at Christ First United Church on Lakeshore Road West. It’s being organized by several local groups including the Town of Port Credit Association and Port Credit Community Foundation.
The other three main candidates have also confirmed they will attend this debate.
Crombie, Tedjo and Damerla are also set to take part in an Oct. 5 mayoral candidate debate at Mississauga City Hall hosted by Policorner, an organization focusing on political reporting related to Queen’s Park.
Parrish won’t join a fourth scheduled debate.
The event organizers mentioned that this public gathering will feature a “90-minute discussion about the future of Ontario’s fourth-largest city.”
Parrish told INsauga. com earlier that she won’t participate due to other obligations. Her choice not to attend the Oct. 5 event drew criticism from her three main opponents last week.
Crombie defeated Parrish (2,479 votes to 2,239 votes) in a September byelection back in September 2011 when both were vying for a council seat representing Ward 5 before Parrish later succeeded Crombie as mayor following a byelection win in June 2024.
Crombie stepped down from her role as mayor in January 2024 to become leader of the Ontario Liberal Party with plans to challenge Premier Doug Ford.
