NEWS RELEASE WELLINGTON COUNTY OPP

(CENTRE WELLINGTON TWP, ON) – The Wellington County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have taken a suspect into custody linked to several theft incidents at a business in the area.

On March 18, 2026, around 3:45 p. m., the Wellington County OPP received a report regarding the theft of alcoholic drinks from a local shop in Centre Wellington Township, with the suspect still on-site and trying to escape.

The officers quickly arrived at the scene, found the individual involved, and made an arrest.

Following their investigation, a 38-year-old man from Markham faces charges under the Criminal Code for:

Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting (five counts)

The suspect was released from police custody and is expected to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Guelph on June 12, 2026.
