Barrie, Ont., police report that a mother is charged with first-degree murder following the death of her 10-year-old child.
Authorities conducted a well-being check on New Year’s Eve around 3 p. m. at a residence located near Bayview Drive and Little Avenue.
The child was discovered deceased within the home. Police did not provide details about the cause of death.
The mother, who is 47 years old, was found inside the house and was taken to the hospital.

Police stated that once she was cleared by medical personnel, officers charged her with first-degree murder on Tuesday. She was subsequently taken into custody.
“Due to the nature of the incident and to respect the privacy of the family involved, updates will only be provided as the investigation permits,” police said.
