A 28‑year‑old man was taken to a Toronto trauma center late last night following a serious single‑vehicle accident in Markham.
Emergency services were alerted to Major Mackenzie Drive East close to Kennedy Road at around 12:42 a. m. on Friday. When officers arrived, they discovered a badly damaged car and the sole driver with severe injuries.
York police informed 680 News Radio that it looks like the vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control, causing it to roll over and end up upside down.
The man was first transported to Sunnybrook Hospital with life‑threatening injuries. Police later updated his status, saying that his condition has improved and his injuries are no longer considered life-threatening.
Authorities confirmed there were no other passengers in the car and that no other vehicles were involved.
The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, but early signs suggest that excessive speed played a significant role.
Motorists are advised to steer clear of the area until the road is fully reopened.
