A 29-year-old man has been charged after a serious hit-and-run incident in Markham that left a pedestrian with critical injuries.
According to York Regional Police, the event took place on February 19, 2026, at around 3:41 p. m., at the intersection of Denison Street and Featherstone Avenue. The victim was hit and carried about 50 metres on the hood of the car before being located east of the intersection.
She was quickly taken to a trauma centre, where she is still in serious condition.
Almost a month later, on March 20, detectives arrested the suspect after searching properties in Richmond Hill, Oshawa, and Toronto. The police have found the vehicle involved in the accident along with some controlled substances.
Investigators claim that the accused tried to hide his identity and fix damage to the vehicle after the crash.
The authorities are asking for help from anyone who might have sold parts or unknowingly repaired this vehicle.
Nathan Kumar Persaud, aged 29 from Oshawa, faces several charges including dangerous driving causing bodily harm, failing to stop after an accident, and drug trafficking-related offenses.
