In a troubling turn of events, York Regional Police have charged a 22-year-old man from Markham in relation to multiple sexual assaults that occurred over the span of a week. These incidents took place in the evenings on Edward Jeffreys Avenue, between Markham Road and Roy Rainey Avenue. The suspect, named Abdul Basit Raufi, was allegedly riding a bicycle during these attacks. After police shared his image and requested help from the public on Tuesday, Raufi was taken into custody by Friday.

He is facing four counts of sexual assault and one count of disguise with intent. These allegations are yet to be proven in court. Authorities have also circulated his photo, believing there might be more victims out there. It’s worth noting that Raufi has connections to Brampton, prompting police to widen their investigation into this area.
