BYD Canada Company Limited has just launched its official website, showing a Markham, Ontario address as its Canadian headquarters. This is the first time BYD (HKG: 1211) has publicly shared a specific location for its operations in Canada.

The bilingual site can be found at byd. com/en-ca and byd. com/fr-ca. It comes as the Chinese carmaker prepares to launch dealerships in Canada, following the recent reduction of tariffs on electric vehicles made in China.

The contact page provides BYD Canada’s address as 60 Travail Road, Markham, Ontario, L3S 3J1. Besides this, there’s only a marketing email listed as a way to get in touch. The site’s terms also clarify that byd. ca, another domain some visitors might find, belongs to an unrelated Toronto marketing firm and is not connected to the automaker.

Currently, the site serves mainly as a corporate showcase instead of a sales platform. It clearly states that online vehicle purchases, leases, financing applications, reservations or deposits aren’t supported yet; there’s no configurator or dealer locator available either.

The site does focus on cold-weather performance-a common concern for Canadians regarding EVs. BYD highlights its FLASH Charging system along with the Blade Battery technology, claiming that charging from 20 to 97 percent at minus 30 degrees Celsius takes only three minutes longer than it would at room temperature.

Founded in 1994 and now recognized as the world’s leading new-energy vehicle manufacturer by volume, BYD describes itself on its website as operating across over 120 countries on six continents and expects revenue to exceed RMB 804 billion by 2025. While having an official address in Canada may seem minor given these numbers, it marks an important step into a market where they have been cautious until now.

This announcement follows months after Ottawa took steps to lower the significant tariff barrier that had kept Chinese EVs out of Canadian showrooms. Prime Minister Mark Carney’s government reduced duties on Chinese-made electric vehicles from 100 percent down to the standard rate of 6.1 percent under most-favoured-nation status through a trade deal finalized in January 2026-replacing blanket surtaxes with managed quotas.

The new quota allows about 49,000 Chinese-made electric vehicles each year into Canada-approximately three percent of the market-with potential growth nearing six percent annually towards roughly 70,000 units within five years.

In return for this concession, Canada secured lower tariffs on canola seeds from China and removed retaliatory duties on canola meal and various seafood products through at least the end of 2026. However, Ontario Premier Doug Ford publicly criticized this arrangement as unbalanced due to ongoing concerns within Canada’s existing automotive sector about these changes.

On the dealership front, BYD has hired Dealer Solutions Mergers & Acquisitions-a consultancy based in Markham-to assist in identifying up to twenty dealership locations across Canada during their first year of operation. The firm’s CEO Farid Ahmad stated that they’re aiming to locate as many of those sites as possible with plans starting in Greater Toronto before expanding into Vancouver, Montreal and Calgary.

The timeline for opening these stores varies among reports; some suggest openings could happen before late 2026 while others indicate early 2027 seems more likely-so until BYD gives direct confirmation we should consider dates uncertain.

Job postings indicate two separate Canadian entities are forming under BYD’s umbrella. One entity focused on North America has been hiring local roles like head of sales and marketing manager around Greater Toronto Area while another listing specifically called “BYD Canada” offers remote positions based out of Vancouver including product manager and regional sales manager jobs among others.

This push from BYD comes at a challenging time for Canada’s own EV marketplace which saw roughly a twenty-five percent decrease in sales during 2025-a slump causing dealers and manufacturers alike looking towards affordable models like those offered by BYD priced under $35K CAD if they meet pricing thresholds specified within trade agreements made recently.

Despite cuts being made concerning tariffs however; vehicles produced by BYD still don’t qualify for Ottawa’s Electric Vehicle Affordability Program rebate since eligibility remains restricted solely to cars built either locally or sourced from free-trade partner nations leaving any provincial incentives applicable where available remaining key leverage points when shopping around cheaper options such like Seagull/Dolphin models once showrooms start showcasing them fully next season!

A physical presence marked by their street address grants tangible grounding thus far into territories northward but whether this office evolves genuinely operationally functional hub remains open-ended whilst they expand showroom networks nationwide still awaits verification.
