York Regional Police have arrested a 22-year-old man from Markham in connection with four sexual assaults reported over the course of one week.
Authorities state that all four incidents involved the same individual, who was spotted riding a bicycle in the evenings near Edward Jeffreys Avenue, between Markham Road and Roy Rainey Avenue.
On August 20, officers from the York Regional Police Special Victims Unit identified and apprehended the suspect. Abdul Basit RAUFI, 22, of Markham, faces four counts of sexual assault and one count of disguise with intent.
The police have released Raifi’s photograph since investigators believe there may be other victims. He also has connections to Brampton.
According to investigators, the accused allegedly took measures to change his appearance and might have looked different during the time of the offenses.
