A woman from London, Ont., has been charged with six counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm following a vehicle crash into a Good Life Fitness centre at Sherwood Forest Mall in the city’s north end on Friday.

Jennifer Lynn Hopper, 59, appeared in court on Monday regarding these charges.

Hopper was one of seven individuals taken to the hospital after a vehicle crashed through an exterior wall of the gym.

Police also provided an update on the conditions of those injured. Four have been released from the hospital, one is in critical condition, and two are reported to be in good and fair condition.

“I can confirm with you that we have evidence and we have information that the vehicle accelerated into the building,” Chief Thai Truong stated during a news conference on Friday, adding that investigators found no signs indicating it was linked to terrorism.

Immediately after the crash, a code orange was activated at the London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), which is used during incidents involving multiple casualties requiring coordinated responses.

Residents describe scene where vehicle crashed into London, Ont., mall

Seven people were sent to the hospital after a vehicle smashed through an exterior wall of Sherwood Forest Mall and entered a gym in London, Ont., on Friday. People working nearby expressed their shock when they saw what had happened. Read more about this story on the CBC London website.

Witnesses described the incident as surprising and questioned how it could happen since there are no parking spaces directly facing the wall where the car entered.

The investigation is still ongoing, according to police.

Investigators are asking anyone who was near the area between 7:20 a. m. and 7:50 a. m. ET Friday or who may have cellphone video, dashcam footage or residential or business surveillance video to reach out to them.
