A pedestrian has lost their life after being hit by a train in west London on Sunday, as reported by London police.

Emergency services were dispatched to the intersection of Oxford Street and Capulet Walk, close to a railway bridge, just before noon. Officers confirmed that the pedestrian had died from their injuries. Police do not suspect any foul play.

The investigation is now being handled by members of the major crime section of the London Police Service, who are collaborating with the Office of the Chief Coroner.

No additional information about the victim has been made public.

VIA Rail stated that one of its trains was part of what it referred to as a “trespasser incident.”

In a statement, the company noted that train 72 was involved in the event shortly before noon. No passengers or crew were reported injured, according to VIA Rail.

“Emergency services and local authorities were immediately notified, and rail traffic was blocked west of London for several hours while authorities investigated the incident,” said the company.

VIA Rail acknowledged that this disruption affected customer travel plans and mentioned compensation would be offered.

The company also extended its condolences to those impacted.

Oxford Street reopened later on Sunday afternoon, and train service resumed once police completed their investigation.
