A paramedic who was off-duty is being recognized by London, Ont. mayor for her quick response after a car crashed into a gym earlier this month.
During a council meeting on Tuesday, Josh Morgan highlighted the rapid actions that Mia L’Heureux took to assist the victims in a fitness class, including one person trapped beneath the vehicle.
“Mia heard the sound of a crash and immediately responded,” Morgan said. “Seeing a cloud of dust and debris, she ran toward the scene, where she found multiple people injured, including a woman trapped beneath a vehicle that had crashed through the wall.”

Even though she has only been a paramedic for two years, Morgan stated that L’Heureux took charge right away, putting the vehicle in park and guiding staff and bystanders to help. “Her actions reflect the very best qualities of a paramedic and a member of the community,” he said. “London is fortunate to have people like Mia among us.” Story continues below On June 12, around 7:40 a. m., emergency services were called out after reports came in about a vehicle crashing through an exterior wall of a fitness center during an ongoing class inside. Currently, group fitness classes are not available as noted on their website. Jennifer Lynn Hopper, 59, was arrested on June 15 and faces six counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.
