Waterloo Regional Police are looking into two incidents that appear to be “swatting” or false emergency calls.
On February 13 around 3:55 p. m., police got a call about a suspected shooting at a house near Westmount Road West and Chopin Drive. Officers went to the location and cleared it.
Not long after, officers responded to another nearby home after receiving a similar call, which was also cleared.
The investigation revealed that both calls were instances of “swatting,” where fake emergency reports lead to unnecessary police responses.
The General Investigations Unit is currently on the case. Anyone with information should reach out to police or Crime Stoppers.
