A 72-year-old man and his dog have lost their lives after being hit by a pickup truck driver in Bluewater, Ont. on Friday night, according to provincial police.
Emergency responders arrived shortly after 9 p. m. on Friday following reports of a pedestrian accident near London Road and Vanastra Road in Bluewater, a municipality located about 85 kilometres west of Kitchener, Ontario Provincial Police stated in a news release.
<p. Upon arrival, they discovered the man from Central Huron and his dog had been struck by a motorist driving a pickup truck.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene while the dog suffered severe injuries and had to be put down, as reported by OPP.
The driver stayed at the location and wasn’t hurt in the incident, they said.
Authorities are investigating what led to the crash that evening.
Roads around London Road between East Street and Vanastra Road have reopened after being closed temporarily.
