A number of people from Waterloo Region have been taken into custody following a drug trafficking investigation involving multiple jurisdictions.
Waterloo Regional Police Service (WRPS) worked alongside Sault Ste. Marie Police (SSMPS) and the OPP to carry out Project Deception Lake, resulting in the arrest of six individuals.
On January 12, SSMPS stopped a vehicle on Highway 17 East after receiving information from WRPS that it was carrying drugs. The stop led to officers seizing a significant amount of suspected cocaine and fentanyl valued at around $142,338 on the street.
A 23-year-old man from Kitchener was arrested and charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking. He is currently held pending a bail hearing.
<p A few days later, on January 15, SSMPS officers executed a search warrant in their city and discovered large amounts of suspected fentanyl, methamphetamines, cocaine, along with drug paraphernalia. These drugs are estimated to be worth about $700,000 on the street.
The same Kitchener man faced three additional charges for possession for the purpose of trafficking.
WRPS later found out that he had also been charged with exporting meth, possession for the purpose of exporting, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds from crime, and possessing a prohibited firearm.
This individual was accused of attempting to send meth to Australia before it was intercepted by Canada Border Services agents.
In local operations, WRPS carried out search warrants on January 13 and February 20 at residences in Kitchener.
They discovered suspected cocaine, psilocybin mushrooms, cannabis, hashish, heroin and MDMA pills. More than $130,000 in Canadian currency was found along with luxury jewelry items, handbags, precious metal bars, cell phones, three vehicles, a bulletproof vest and a prohibited firearm with ammunition.
A 40-year-old man as well as two 30-year-olds-one man and one woman-from Waterloo Region were charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking among other offenses.
A 28-year-old man from Woodstock also received similar charges.
On March 11th , OPP arrested a 47-year-old man from Orangeville who was wanted due to outstanding warrants linked to this investigation.
