A fire broke out at a residence on Major Street in Kitchener, and authorities are investigating it as suspicious.
The incident occurred near Wellington Street North and Lancaster Street around 6 AM on Sunday.
Waterloo regional police confirmed to 570 News Radio that there were no injuries reported.
When firefighters arrived, they found a unit at the back of the two-storey home completely engulfed in flames. Police stated that the fire caused substantial damage.
Wellington Street was closed between Lancaster and St. Leger while firefighters worked to control the blaze.
The exact cause of the fire is still unknown, but “police are treating the incident as suspicious.”
Kitchener Fire Department estimates the damage to be around $500,000.
The Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal has been called in for an investigation, and local emergency officials will work together with them.
