Bomb threat prompts police presence at Kitchener public school

Waterloo regional police searched a public college in Kitchener on Monday following a reported bomb risk.

Initially, police mentioned they have been on scene within the space of Courtland Avenue Public Faculty for an unspecified investigation.

Police later confirmed the investigation associated to a reported bomb risk on the Grade 7 and eight college, residence to only over 200 college students.

In an announcement to 570 NewsRadio, Scott Miller, Director of Training, mentioned the message was instantly reported to police who responded to the varsity.

“Out of an abundance of caution, students and staff were evacuated from the school while the WRPS investigation took place,” Miller mentioned.

As a part of their investigation, officers searched the constructing, which was accomplished round 2 p.m.

“There are no immediate threats to the school or public safety,” reads a social media submit from the Waterloo Regional Police Service.

A number of cops remained on the scene and no additional particulars have been instantly offered. The investigation into the alleged risk continued into Tuesday.

“In these circumstances the priority is always to ensure that WRDSB schools remain a safe place where students and staff experience a caring learning environment that addresses their well-being,” Miller mentioned.
