Environment Canada has put out snow squall warnings for the Kingston, Ont., area, including possible blizzard-like conditions in Prince Edward County.

The county could see snow squalls starting as soon as Sunday evening, according to an orange-level warning released this afternoon by the weather agency.

The most severe weather is expected on Monday, with westerly winds gusting up to 90 km/h and snowfall totals between 20 and 40 centimetres, Environment Canada reported.

Travel could be “extremely hazardous,” the agency noted, with potential road closures and power outages. Although winds are likely to calm down Monday night, lake effect snow may persist into Tuesday and possibly Wednesday.

Kingston is under a less serious yellow-level warning, with snow squalls forecasted to begin overnight or early Monday morning.

An estimated 10 to 20 centimetres of snow could accumulate, alongside wind gusts reaching 60 km/h on Monday afternoon.

As of Sunday afternoon, yellow-level warnings were also issued for areas like Napanee, Belleville and Quinte West.
