Cataraqui Conservation has prolonged its Shoreline Conditions Statement for Lake Ontario and the upper St. Lawrence River, noting that water levels are high but stable. The latest report shows that Lake Ontario’s level at Kingston is still just above the agency’s monitoring threshold, although it has gradually gone down recently. Officials believe that the seasonal peak likely happened on May 29, assuming weather stays average or drier than usual. Even though widespread flooding isn’t anticipated, water levels are higher than normal summer conditions and might remain above the monitoring threshold into July. This means there’s still an increased chance of localized shoreline impacts from storm surge and wave action. Cataraqui Conservation advises residents along shorelines to keep an eye on conditions. The statement will stay in effect until July 17 unless updates are made sooner due to changes in weather or water level conditions. Story by Tim Baltz
