As humidity levels soar to alarming heights in the Ottawa region, Environment Canada is advising everyone to stay alert as severe thunderstorms are forming on Tuesday.
A rapidly moving system near Kingston has raised concerns from the agency about a possible tornado, leading to a red-level warning from Environment Canada.
“Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible,” it stated at 1:00 p. m. on Tuesday.
The warning was lifted by meteorologists shortly after being issued, but thunderstorms continue to move through the area.
Conditions in the nation’s capital are “favourable” for developing a severe storm that could bring strong gusts and hail to the city.
Temperatures are reaching 30 C, which will feel like 38 in Ottawa.
The weather agency indicates that rainfall amounts of up to 50 mm are possible along with a risk of tornadoes and golf ball-sized hail on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

“Thunderstorms over eastern and central Ontario are expected to keep tracking southeast today, bringing strong winds, hail and heavy rain,” it mentions.
Communities south of Perth are on alert for thunder and lightning as wind gusts increase and flash flooding is anticipated.
