Police and bylaw officers in Kingston, Ont. are making ready for homecoming weekend at Queen’s College, warning unlawful events and actions is not going to be tolerated.


Queen’s College is internet hosting its annual homecoming weekend Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the marquee occasion being the Queen’s Gales soccer recreation in opposition to Waterloo on Sunday afternoon.


Forward of homecoming weekend, Kingston Police introduced the College District Security Initiative will probably be in impact till Nov. 3, with police and bylaw implementing the initiative city-wide. Officers could have an elevated presence within the College District and across the Queen’s College campus.


“Maintain alcohol the place it belongs,” police stated on social media. “Police will implement the Liquor License and Management Act. Depart the booze at house or drink it at a certified institution.”


The College District Security Initiative targets a number of potential points within the College District throughout homecoming, together with nuisance events, noise bylaw infractions and Liquor License Act offences.  Police and bylaw officers have the authority to difficulty Administrative Financial Penalties and Charges for offences, together with $2,000 for internet hosting a nuisance occasion, $2,000 for failing to adjust to an emergency order if a nuisance occasion is asserted and $200 for a noise bylaw offence.


“Queens College college students are an essential a part of the Kingston group, and we wish everybody to have an gratifying Homecoming weekend, whether or not you’re a scholar, visitor or neighbour,” Kyle Compeau, Director of Licensing & Enforcement on the Metropolis of Kingston, stated in a press release.


“We encourage everyone to watch out for each other, be respectful toward your neighbours and avoid high-risk behaviours that could place excessive strain on emergency services or result in expensive fines or penalties.” 


Police and bylaw officers issued greater than $88,000 in fines in the course of the 2023 homecoming celebrations. Bylaw officers handed out two fines for internet hosting a nuisance occasion, and 90 fines value $500 every have been issued for failing to adjust to an order to go away the premises.


Police additionally issued 134 tickets for having open liquor and 9 tickets for underage consuming and 61 fines of $500 every for failing to adjust to an order to go away a premises.


Homecoming comes on the finish of the autumn studying week for college kids at Queen’s College.


The College District Security Initiative has been prolonged till November 1 as police and bylaw put together for ‘fake’ homecoming weekend and Halloween events later this month.
