Cataraqui Conservation has extended its Shoreline Conditions Statement for Lake Ontario and the upper St. Lawrence River as water levels stay above normal summer figures.
The agency notes that lake levels are likely to remain stable or slowly decrease in the next few weeks. However, higher levels could still happen if we experience wetter-than-usual weather and water supply conditions.
Since July 9, the average water level in Lake Ontario has dropped by two centimetres and is currently about two centimetres above the messaging threshold. The level at Kingston is well below the 1:100-year flood elevation.
The St. Lawrence River level at Brockville is also below the 1:100-year flood elevation.
According to Cataraqui Conservation, widespread flooding isn’t anticipated, but elevated water levels might raise the risk of localized effects from storm surge and wave action.
This statement will remain active until August 14 unless there are earlier updates.
