People living in and around Kingston were advised to stay alert near rivers and streams on Monday after a storm system hit eastern Ontario with heavy rain and thunderstorms over the weekend.

Both a yellow-level rainfall warning from Environment Canada and a water safety statement from the Cataraqui Region Conservation Authority were issued.
Environment Canada warned Sunday that total rainfall amounts of 50 to 80 millimetres were expected across the Kingston-Odessa-Frontenac Islands area, with some locations potentially receiving close to 100 millimetres where multiple rounds of heavy precipitation tracked over the same area.
The rainfall warning was part of a broader weather event affecting much of eastern Ontario.
The agency said heavy rain and thunderstorms would continue through the night, with some rain lingering into Monday morning.
The weather agency cautioned that water could pool on roads and in low-lying areas , creating hazardous driving conditions and potential for localized property damage. While widespread flooding wasn’t expected at this point , Cataraqui Conservation mentioned that recent rains combined with more coming raised concerns about fast-rising water levels in some local waterways.
The authority stated that rainfall totals recorded across watershed July28 ranged six twenty-six millimeters，with forecasts indicating much more due intense slow-moving weather system passing eastern Ontario over Sunday．
Cataraqui Conservation stated managers monitoring conditions adjusting dam discharges possible as excess water moved through watershed.
The authority stressed widespread flooding not expected but localized inundation low-lying areas remained possible. Officials urged residents exercise caution near dams inflow outflow channels fast-flowing streams slippery shorelines.

“ Main consideration safety along watercourses,” statement warned. “ Stay well back water’s edge above below dams hydroelectric stations.”
