A worker has tragically passed away following an incident at Flamboro Speedway on Saturday night, according to Hamilton police.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the speedway on 5th Concession Road West around 9:15 p. m. after an employee sustained injuries. In a news release from July 19, police referred to it as an accident occurring on the racetrack. No further details have been shared about what led to the incident.
The worker was transported to Hamilton General Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries later. The identity of the victim has not been disclosed by the police.
Hamilton police reported that patrol officers, divisional detectives, forensic services, and collision reconstruction specialists all responded at the scene. The Ontario Ministry of Labour was also involved.
Authorities stated that the Ministry of Labour is overseeing the investigation. Anyone seeking information regarding the inquiry is being directed to contact the ministry.
Flamboro Speedway was hosting a night of racing on Saturday, which included a Christmas in July toy drive along with a meet-the-drivers event, as per details available on the speedway’s website.
