Hamilton police are reaching out to the community for assistance as they look into the unexplained death of a 54-year-old man found in Waterdown earlier this week.
The man was discovered unresponsive on the sidewalk near Dundas Street East and First Street at approximately 6:22 p. m. on Monday.
Authorities reported that he was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Initially, investigators did not consider the circumstances surrounding his death to be suspicious.
However, after reviewing video footage, talking with witnesses, and gathering further information from a post-mortem exam, detectives began to question that initial assessment.
As they continued their investigation, police uncovered details that raised alarms regarding how the man died.

The case is now being treated as suspicious, with the Hamilton Police Homicide Unit taking over the investigation.
At this point, officials say that the death has not been labeled a homicide.
Detectives are urging anyone who was present on Dundas Street East between Spring Creek Drive and First Street from 6 p. m. to 6:30 p. m. on Monday and may have seen anything relevant to come forward.
Police also encourage residents, business owners, and drivers in the area to check their security cameras or dash cams for any footage during that timeframe.
