A 12-year-old boy has sustained serious injuries following a crash involving a dump truck and a car carrying a woman and four children on Highway 5 in Dundas, according to the Ontario Provincial Police.

The accident occurred around 10:25 a. m. on Thursday, sending all five people in the sedan to nearby hospitals and shutting down part of the highway near Christie Lake Conservation Area in Hamilton. The highway has since been reopened.

Authorities report that the 43-year-old woman suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while the other kids – a 10-year-old girl, a six-year-old boy, and a four-year-old girl – were being evaluated for their injuries.

The driver of the dump truck, a 63-year-old woman, was unharmed in the incident, police stated.

The crash took place on Highway 5 east of Middletown Road. According to police, the sedan traveling east attempted to make a left turn when it collided with the dump truck coming from the opposite direction.

“Charges are pending against the sedan driver,” police said.
