A second severe thunderstorm watch was issued Friday for Hamilton, Brantford and parts of the Niagara Region as extreme heat continues through much of Ontario.
One thunderstorm watch was issued Friday morning, followed by heavy rain and thunder moving east through Brantford, Hamilton and the Niagara regions.
Environment Canada says conditions are right for another storm Friday afternoon and evening.
Norfolk and Haldimand counties are also under the thunderstorm watch.
The storm could bring wind gusts of up to 100 km/h, hail as big as ping-pong balls, and more than 30 mm of heavy rain, according to Environment Canada.
“Local utility outages are possible. There is a risk of injury,” said the weather agency. They also recommended people take cover if “threatening weather” approaches.

Orange heat warning remains in effect
Most of southern Ontario remains under an orange heat warning. In Hamilton, Environment Canada forecasts a high of 32 C with a Humidex reading of 43 on Friday. The heat is expected to stick around through Saturday. “The hottest conditions are expected to continue through [Friday],” Environment Canada said. “Maximum temperatures of 31 to 33 degrees Celsius expected. Minimum temperatures near 21 degrees Celsius will provide little relief from the heat.” The City of Hamilton issued an extended heat warning and is asking people to stay safe by: Drinking water and avoiding caffeine and alcoholic beverages. Going to an air-conditioned place; the city has a list of designated cool spots on its website. Dressing appropriately in lightweight, loose-fitting clothing. Limiting physical activity. Trying to cool off with a bath or shower. Not leaving children or pets alone in closed cars. Checking in on those around you. “Landlords can help decrease the risk of heat-related illness for tenants. Connect with tenants to determine if units have adequate cooling,” the city said in a news release. “If not, provide tenants with onsite access to a cool space accessible throughout the heat warning, such as a common room with air conditioning.”Source link
