François Bonnardel, a member of the Coalition Avenir Québec cabinet, has chosen not to seek re-election in this year’s provincial race.
This was first reported by TVA and later confirmed by Radio-Canada.
Bonnardel, who represents Granby, is currently the minister responsible for immigration, francization, and integration. He will continue to serve in the National Assembly until his term ends.
Elected to the National Assembly for the first time in 2007, he has successfully won six general elections since then.
Bonnardel is now part of an increasing number of CAQ MNAs stepping back from provincial politics, including former premier François Legault, who left his position in January.
<p Recently, Labour Minister Jean Boulet and Culture Minister Mathieu Lacombe also announced their plans not to run for re-election this fall.
The next election is set for October 5, 2026.
