A school bus full of students crashed into a car that had broken down, and the impact knocked the driver, a 61-year-old woman from St. Catharines, onto the Burlington Skyway late Wednesday night.
The Ontario Provincial Police reported that she was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
According to officers, she was standing next to the concrete barrier on the highway when the bus collided with her vehicle, causing it to move forward and hit her.
“The vehicle was blocking a live lane of traffic as a school bus approached over the crest of the Burlington Skyway in the right most lane – the fourth lane of the highway,” Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says in a video posted on X.
“The driver was unable to negotiate and avoid a collision.”
OPP stated that there were 36 students, three teachers, and one driver aboard the school bus, and fortunately none of them suffered injuries.
No one else was inside the woman’s car.
